A blast from the past!

Today my husband went back to his school to clean out his classroom.
I didn't see the 4 storage boxes go into the back bedroom until much later. The room I want to paint and re-do since the remodel.  Knowing he would be bringing a desk and his chair into the garage I started making room for it all. Half of the garage still has items from the remodel that we haven't fit back into our house just yet.  I cleaned out an old white wicker trunk (falling apart) only to discover treasures from my boys growing up.  Their large tin box (once my mother n'laws with roses on it) filled with crayons and markers, all still in good shape.  The pull toy that hung on their crib playing a song while the baby bear goes up and touches the mama bears' nose.  It still worked so I cleaned it up and put it away.
This is the blast from the past that my husband brought in!!

A picture that I had purchased for our sons' room when they were little.  There are even some drawing marks on it that one of them had made. Children from different ethnic backgrounds holding hands with BIG smiles on their faces..
I just had to put it into my sewing/laundry room.  So many memories of my boys surfaced today, they may not remember but we certainly do as parents, every treasure found has such meaning.

The quilt

This last week I have been keeping busy in my spare time working on this quilt.
It is actually a wall hanghing, design by McKenna Ryan, called "Growing".
I love it, I had purchased this as a kit while on a quilt run several years ago.
I am going to make it into a quilt for our bed.  I have been wanting to change up our bedroom a bit, but of course it will still be blue...

Next step is machine applique'

Last Day!!

It's Friday..
Been a long week, emotional and a little draining.
My husband is retiring after 38 years of teaching, and yesterday was his last day of school with students, graduation, and teacher gathering.
I got a little tear in my eye as the students marched out to their song they chose.
Their guest speaker was Danny Dias from Mc Farland, yes the actual person from the movie, not the character, the real one.  He was very inspirational to the students.
My husband Reno has been there and helped many students, parents and teachers along the way, mentoring all.
Here he is off to his last day of school, a picture I took, reminded me of taking pictures like this of our sons going off to school.

Onward forward, today and Monday cleaing out his classroom of 38 years of treasures..
Can't wait to see what the future holds for him.
Doing what he wants to do, at his own time, enjoying life, maybe just an ordinary day
which is what I am looking forward to spending with him!
Love him!

Happy Monday morning!

Good morning !  Happy Monday to you all!  It is going to be a hot day today.
Wednesday is the start of our local town Merced County Fair, here in Merced,

This past weekend we celebrated my husbands'retirement that included two others from his school. They have comitted themselves to the school and the community of Planada for many years.. A great time had by all, stories, laughter, tears, and many faces I  have not seen in a very long time that were retired many years ago.  A great meal, teachers from the school, old friends, and family.  I was asked many times, "What are you going to do with him at home?" My answer, I am NOT retired, I will be at work!!  Someday, we will see what's ahead.
Onto a new chapter of our lives.  More ordinary days, no more hustle and bustle to get to work.  Enjoying things you want to do.  Finding a new hobby or job interest.
Life is an ever changing story, keep your eyes and heart open for the unexpected!

Here is a wreath I made for our front door last week.

My old style 70's door original to our home.  Never liked it, but about 10 years ago I added a white pickling stain over the exhisting dark stain, two coats of marine shellac.  I actually really like it..a little shabby chic and still fits the house style.
A simple change with paint is an inexpensive way to make a change without spending a lot of money.
Have a great day today, and do something for yourself!!
